A Spirit Airlines flight from Florida was damaged by gunfire en route to Haiti and diverted to the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic, the airline said.

A day after the prime minister of Haiti was fired, the airport in Port-au-Prince was closed because of the attack on the aircraft. A JetBlue plane was also struck.

A flight of Florida-based Spirit Airlines was hit by gunfire while attempting to land in Haiti with a crew member that sustained "minor injuries."
